Introducing
The Person Behind Nzongo
My name is Paciencia, and I am the founder of Nzongo. I am happy to welcome you to my - and hopefully soon our world. Before going into my reasons for starting my own business, I would love to tell you something about my background. I am a 29-year-old Angolan girl from Germany.
My Why
The journey to where I am today - to be confident in all the facets of my being was a hard one. Growing up in Germany was often connected with being the only "other" in the room. And People that looked like me were rarely portrayed in a good light by the media. And it didn't help that being an African wasn't cool back then. I spent many years trying to be somebody I am not, trying to conform to a beauty ideal that was never within my reach. Growing out my natural hair was the first time I actively opposed the European standard of beauty. I had enough of the silky straight, the Brazilian this or the Peruvian that.
It took a few years to get to a point where I could accept my blackness and the beauty that comes with it.
MY MISSION
My experiences growing up made me want to create a safe space for black women. A space where we can be and celebrate ourselves. Somewhere we can strengthen our confidence and build each other up.
Tired of looking for this place, I created it by myself.
And I called it NZONGO.
